Tommy stressed that the congress held in Bali at the end of August last year is a legal congress and complies with the legal provisions and the constitution.

“We want to emphasize that the PKB Congress held on August 24-25 was a legitimate congress and was attended by all DPWs and DPCs from all over Indonesia,” Tommy said at a press conference held at the PKB DPP office in Central Jakarta, Saturday, August 31, 2024.

Tommy added that the National Guard will act decisively in case some parties try to hold a rival conference or disrupt the stability of the PKB.

“We, as national guard personnel throughout Indonesia, strongly condemn any attempt to hold a conference of rivals. “If necessary, we will not forcibly stop any illegal activity that attempts to disrupt the National Awakening Party,” he stressed.

Tommy also revealed that his party has been informed of plans to hold a rival congress with a possible venue in Jakarta or Surabaya, which is expected to be held in early September.

“The plan is for two locations that we know of, namely Jakarta or Surabaya. The date is approximately early September. “However, so far, according to our monitoring, there has been no suspicious activity,” Tommy said.

In his statement, Tommy also asked the police not to allow any activities related to the rival PKB Congress.

“We ask the police not to give permission to operate in the name of the National Awakening Party and give them the opportunity to divide the party,” he added.

Tommy also stressed the National Guard’s readiness to confront an autonomous body of Nahdlatul Ulama, such as GP Ansar, if the situation requires it.

“Even though we feel uncomfortable in front of our brothers, we are ready to defend the PKB at all costs if necessary. If we have to face a conflict, we are ready,” Tommy said.

National Guard Secretary General Muhammad Rodley Kaelani also explained the legality of the Bali Congress, which he said was in accordance with the PKB (AD/ART) Constitution and Bylaws.

He added that the presence of Vice President Maruf Amin and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto is proof of the legality of the conference.

“The deputy president of the country’s representative participated in the congress in Bali, demonstrating that the state recognises the legitimacy of the PKB as a legal political party in Indonesia. “The presence of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs also demonstrates the respect of the PKB,” said Rodley.

Rodley also said the PKB coordinated with security agencies to ensure that there were no illegal activities that would disrupt the stability of the party, including the rival congress.

He did not even hesitate to take action against the parties involved in these matters. “We will not hesitate to take legal action against the event organizer (EO) or the hotel involved in holding the rival conference,” he said.

Meeting on the conference against PKB

Previously, former PKB Secretary General Lukmon Edi appealed in court against the results of the 6th PKB Congress held in Bali.

The complaint has been sent to the PKB Strengthening Council and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham).

Lukmon believes that the congress has procedural flaws and should be rescheduled. He stressed the importance of holding the congress on the basis of AD/ART and Law No. 2/2011 on political parties.

“The Bali congress did not follow the correct procedures, so we deem it necessary to hold another congress in accordance with AD/ART and the Political Parties Act,” he said.

Lukmon also criticised the leadership of Chak Imin, who he said had neglected the role of the Suro Council as the holder of the highest mandates in the PKB.

He charged that over the past five years, Chuck Immin had greatly reduced the influence of the Xu Council.

“Chuck Imin’s leadership is too centralized and has significantly reduced the authority of the Suo Council, which should have the highest mandate in the PKB,” he said.

Lukmon also mentioned several names that he considers worthy of the post of PKB chairman instead of Chak Imin. According to him, these names will be presented at the Congress scheduled for 2-3 September 2024 in Jakarta.

“Many of the best personalities of the PKB and NU deserve leadership such as Khofifa Indar Parawansa, Yeni Wahid, Syaifullo Yusuf and Halim Iskandar. We will also consult with the PBNU on the implementation of this Congress,” he said.
