A viral video showing a crowd of Indonesian migrant workers in Osaka is believed to be a group disrupting the peace.

“From our communication with our Consul General in Osaka, he said that there is no indication yet that there is a community of Indonesian migrant workers or interns in Japan forming groups of Indonesian citizens,” Retno said in a meeting with the DPR RI Commission I at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, September 5, 2024.

At a meeting with the Japanese Army Commander, General Maruli discussed strategic cooperation between the two forces.

However, Retno did not deny that several Indonesian migrant workers in Osaka, Japan, often congregate in various areas of the city during their free time. However, it is still within reasonable limits.

“The Consul General also said that normally during public holidays or at the end of Sunday, there are actually a number of Indonesian citizens who gather in the Dotonburi and Namba areas in Osaka in numbers and in a space that is normally not reasonably controlled and does not violate public order,” he said.

The former Indonesian ambassador to the Netherlands also claimed that Indonesian Consul General in Osaka John Tjahjanto Boestami confirmed the veracity of the viral video, which shows a crowd of Indonesian migrant workers in Osaka, suspected of forming the group.

“At this moment, the Consul General is confirming whether the video circulating is authentic or edited,” Retno said.

In addition, Retno said the Indonesian consul general in Osaka has also contacted Indonesian dignitaries in the area, urging other Indonesian citizens to follow local regulations.

“The consul general has been in touch with Indonesian officials to remind them that we are in someone else’s shoes and that we also have to obey local regulations,” he said.

In fact, Retno said, shortly after the video went viral on social media, his party immediately contacted the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Tokyo, Japan, as well as the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Osaka (KJRI) in Osaka).

“Actually, our Consul General in Osaka reported this first,” he said.
